I was invited by author Nicholas Bennett to illustrate a series of poems for inclusion in his science/philosophy book, The Dying Alchemists. It was a challenge that captivated me from the start. How to illustrate such complex ideas and philosophy wanderings on a large scale?
The answer, after much experimentation, was to mirror the complex patterns of the Universe with the complex shapes and forms found in the minutae of nature. I searched for objects from nature that would help me to reflect the meaning and intent of each poem, choosing items that are not necessarily seen as beautiful, but can be considered that when looked at from a different perspective.
I worked closely with the author to design a book that blended art, science and poetry into one.
The Dying Alchemists was released in July, 2021 through One Tentacle Publishing. Limited edition prints of my artwork with Nicholas Bennett’s poetry can be found on their website, along with a selection of fine art greeting cards.
