Watercolour painting of fungi growing on a tree trunk

Original watercolour painting by Tina Wilson titled Symbiosis. In nature the ecosystem is constantly working in a cycle of life. Fungi, although not traditionally seen as beautiful, like rainforest orchids, play an important role in the eco-system. Fungi are the decomposers in the food web, converting organic matter that is hard to digest into forms other organisms can use.
The orchid depicted here, Sarcochilus fitzgeraldii (commonly known as the Ravine Orchard) has be spotted on the cliffs of the Cougalls and Mt Warning.
